The IEEE International Conference on Mobile Data Management 2012 (MDM 2012) will be the thirteenth of a series of conferences that is dedicated to innovative and important research on mobile data management. Through these years since 1999, the MDM series of conferences has established itself as a leading international forum for researchers, practitioners and users whose work involves mobility related data.

The history of the MDM series of conferences so far has also witnessed the rapid and dramatic evolution of mobility-related hardware, software, as well as other relevant technologies. All developments in such aspects have rendered the fundamental issue of mobile data management even more challenging than ever. Increasing amounts of data of several sorts and complexities, e.g., spatial, spatiotemporal and multimedia data, are being generated by huge numbers of users of many kinds of mobile devices that range from sensors, smartphones to portable computers comparable to workstations a decade ago. Mobile users, through different wireless means, are connected to the conventional Internet, to each other, and to the emerging clouds. On the other hand, more and more domains and applications are still eager to go mobile in order to offer seamless user convenience and experience. Staging information between the mobile device and the supporting infrastructure and managing it efficiently to support the QoS needs for mobile multimedia applications is also becoming an increasing challenge. All these challenges call for novel ideas, techniques and tools that can help various users cope with their data in this new era of mobility.

The 2012 International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM 2012), to be held in Bangalore, India (July 23-26, 2012) solicits original research contributions related to all aspects of mobile data management. Based on quality criteria, accepted submissions will be selected as full papers, short papers, and poster papers.
