1st International Workshop on  Mobile Data Collection in the Developing World

Organizations in the developing world have long been burdened by managing large-scale data collection efforts using paper-based forms. Today, we are witnessing a technology revolution in which new tools for mobile data collection and automatic digitization have the potential to radically transform the management of data in resource-constrained settings.

This workshop will connect leading organizations, having field operations in India, with an international cadre of researchers who are developing the latest tools for collecting and managing data. Our goals are to identify new research directions, to disseminate the latest technologies from the lab to the field, and to forge new long-term collaborations that are beneficial to both researchers and practitioners.

1st International Workshop on Data Management in Participatory Sensing (DMPS)

The proliferation of low-cost sensors in user devices (e.g. mobile phones, notepads, cars, etc.) has inspired the idea of outsourcing sensing tasks by means of participatory sensing. The realization of participatory sensing involves dealing with important data management research challenges, such as storage and processing of sensor data from uncontrolled mobile sources, data quality assessment, privacy-preserving data collection, data access control, participation incentives provision, economic sustainability, etc.

We aim to attract interest from research communities that work on emerging participatory sensing applications. The workshop will include a panel of researchers to discuss the future of participatory sensing and the associated research issues. A keynote speech maybe also included in the program. The plan is to make this workshop one of the primary targets for the work around participatory sensing and its related problems.
