Travel and Transportation
Flight travel Beautifully situated in Northern Denmark, Aalborg – the capital of the region – is well connected to the world and visitors from abroad will be able to fly to Aalborg by KLM, who operates four daily 75-minute flights directly from Amsterdam Schiphol, connected to 260 destinations worldwide. Another easy way for international visitors to reach Aalborg is via Copenhagen Airport, which has a virtual air bridge to Aalborg with more than 30 daily connections and a flight time of only 35 minutes. Before you know it, you have arrived at Aalborg Airport.
Adding to these options, you will find that Norwegian and Ryan Air each operate a route to/from London three days weekly. Airport transfer
Arriving by plane, you will find yourself at Aalborg Airport and from there you are only 10 minutes away from the city centre by bus or taxi.
Taxis
The taxi rank is right outside the airport and a taxi will take you directly to your hotel. Dial +45 9810 1010 to call a taxi if needed. The price for a taxi ride is approx. 24-40 Euro, depending on hotel destination. Most credit cards are accepted.
Bus
As you exit the airport building using the revolving doors at the check-in area, you will find the buses going to downtown Aalborg on your right hand side.
The buses with the following numbers plus final destinations will take you to Aalborg’s bus terminal, which is centrally located (with multiple stops along the way):
The yellow bus (number plus final destination)
- 12 – University leaves from the airport several times per hour and takes you to the city centre.
The grey regional buses (number plus final destination)
- 70 – Aalborg Busterminal
- 71 – Aalborg Busterminal
- 200 – Aalborg busterminal
The bus fare is 3 Euro per person, cash only. Neither foreign currency nor credit cards are accepted. However, you can withdraw cash from ATM’s at the airport.
Please notice that once the bus crosses the bridge over the Limfjord, you have arrived in downtown Aalborg.

When returning to the airport, you have the following bus options:

Local travel
Travelling by train
In the centre of the city, close to the conference venue, you will find Aalborg’s main train station and the bus terminal. From here, there are direct routes to many cities across the country. Intercity trains between Copenhagen and Aalborg run on an hourly basis. Travelling by bus
The transportation company Nordjyllands Trafikselskab (NT) operates locally in the region and runs an extensive network of local buses in Aalborg. There are also long distance bus routes that link Aalborg with Copenhagen, Odense, Esbjerg and other major cities in Denmark and around Europe.

Ferries
StenaLine and ColorLine offer several connections from Sweden and Norway to Hirtshals (70 km from Aalborg), Frederikshavn (65 km from Aalborg) or Grenå (115 km from Aalborg). Fjord Line offers a connection from Kristiansand, Stavanger-Bergen in Norway to Hirtshals (70 km from Aalborg).
Car
Aalborg has direct highway connections to Copenhagen and Germany. Queues rarely occur and the speed limit is 130 km/hour. Several car rental companies are located in Aalborg and other main cities in Denmark, e.g. AVIS, Europcar and Hertz. For route planning please check Google Maps, Mappy or ViaMichelin.

Running
Even when staying in the city centre there are plenty of local parks that are perfect for a great work out. A different experience awaits you, if you go for a run in Mølleparken during twilight. Here, you can follow a 2.5 km illuminated path and the route has a terrain increase of 45 meters.

Danish currency is ‘kroner’ (DKK), EUR 1 equals DKK 7.5 and USD 1 equals DKK 6. Banks are open from Mon-Fri 10AM-4PM. International credit cards are accepted most places.
Tipping
In Denmark, tipping is not common. All service bills that you receive already include gratuity and it is therefore unnecessary (but always appreciated) to add a tip in Denmark.
Weather
Aalborg is situated in North Denmark, where the weather changes with the seasons. Denmark has a temperate climate and can be humid and overcast. The winters are usually mild and windy and the summers can be cool or sunny. The weather in Denmark is a popular subject for discussion as it changes from day to day and even from hour to hour. It is therefore a good idea to bring a coat or an umbrella for outdoor activities. Electrical appliances
Electrical appliances run at 220v/50Hz in Denmark. Electrical outlets use a two-prong plug typical for continental Europe. Most laptops will automatically work with 220-230 volts (check the back of your laptop for power input markings.)
No smoking policy
According to Danish law, smoking is prohibited inside any building, venue, hotel, bus, etc. Smoking is only allowed in open-air areas or designated zones.
Safe country
In general, Denmark is a very safe country. However, as with most major cities in the world, it is advisable to watch your belongings and valuables while being in public places and to keep cars locked and valuables out of sight.
